Gippsland Environment Group (GEG) wants to encourage all HNEG member groups to support East Gippsland Shire's Sustainabilty Strategy, by taking action in matters of unlawful land clearing and other acts which contavene the spirit of the Strategy. It also feels the Council needs to be urged to greatly increase the number of officers employed in an environmental or sustainability role so that its strategies can be supported. Given the area of the Shire, this is especially important.
Council needs to be urged to streamline communication methods for receiving reports from residents about these matters and to clearly, and within a reasonable time, report back on action to be taken.
GEG would like member groups to support this recommendation by reporting, to East Gippsland Shire, any acts which endanger native habitat and to pursue the matter until a satisfactory outcomeis achieved.
